Albany Slip Crock Decorated with Halloween Pleasantries

🎃 An array of Halloween and autumn decorations grace this beautiful lug handled crock dating from 1860 to 1880 that was a Pennsylvania find. An Albany slip using a rich chocolate glaze along with a wide black band located near bottom adds interest. The same deep color also enhances a portion of the top by way of an inconsistent wave appearance.

One large chip can be found just below the edge on the back side that has been color matched to the existing color. Other smaller chips are located at random on the top edge. However, there are no cracks to report. Two incised bands located near the top and middle location are further decorative enhancements. Form is special as there is a gentle “flair” near the bottom that adds dimensional character. The inside (not shown) is in good condition and has the same glazed appearance as the outside.

Papier Mache folksy Jack – O -Lanterns I painted using a brush stroke of whimsy take center stage placed in the front. I fashioned the hats from felt and orange calico that are also hand stitched using pumpkin thread. They reside among faux bittersweet, thistle and large silk maple leaves along with a lone gourd. Dark brown excelsior was placed inside to elevate the contents.

This autumn and Halloween inspired crock will add color to any table or cupboard shelf it is placed on. Contents can easily be removed so it has another decorating opportunity for the upcoming Christmas holiday filled with greens, berries and perhaps a pair of darling red child’s mittens. Enjoy!

Crock stands 7” tall, top opening measures 8 ¾” across and the bottom measures 8”. Jack ~ O ~ Lanterns are 5” tall including the hat and measure 2” across the bottom.
